A new free resource was unveiled to Borders tourism businesses at the Tourism Xchange Day in Kelso, in a bid to help attract more cyclists to visit the region. The “Borders Bike Kit “ has been developed by the Borders Recreational Cycling Group as part of a £100,000 programme to promote the region’s leisure cycling offer.
Cycle tourism is worth over £219 million to the Scottish economy each year and the new on-line “Bike Kit” provides marketing advice, links to information on the region’s cycle routes, free imagery, web banners, top tips and suggestions for joint working to enable accommodation providers, bike hire shops, cafes, restaurants and attractions throughout the Borders to showcase the region’s potential as a cycling destination to prospective visitors.
Neen Kelly, the Borders Recreational Cycling Officer said; “Through this kit we aim to provide tourism businesses in the Borders with the resources that will enable them to enhance the information they provide to their customers and in turn attract more cyclists to the region.”
“The Borders is already very popular with mountain bikers but is not as well known for its road cycling. With dozens of town cycle trails and several outstanding longer way-marked routes including the Borderloop and Tweed Cycle Way, there is a huge untapped potential. Leisure cyclists are looking for cycle friendly accommodation, scenic routes, interesting attractions and quality food and drink and the Borders can offer it all. ”
The “bike-kit” can be downloaded from today and is available to all businesses free of charge.
