Laurie Campbell, the well-known photographer based in the Scottish Borders and some of whose images are available on this site, has been invited to take part in Wild Wonders of Europe, the biggest ever project of its type, involving 58 photographers working in one another’s countries to capture images of the continent’s wildlife. Although he asked for a special dispensation: to stay at home!
He will work on images of the bottlenose dolphins of the Moray Firth, as well as on images of otters on the West Coast and on the riverbanks of the Borders.
Campbell was arguably Scotland’s first full-time nature photographer. He is a regular contributor to calendars, magazines and postcard ranges as well as an illustrator of books on golden eagles, badgers and Highland cattle.
An exhibition of his work currently at Waterston House, the Scottish Ornithologist’s Club headquarters at Aberlady, spans 30 years of photography, and show both classic images and artistic experiments, from
sanderlings on the edge of focus to a swallow swooping over a silky sea.
