Support your local retailers

The Borders is filled with wonderful shops, each with their own individual character, bursting with all you need with some great gift ideas…. and by shopping locally you’ll help boost the local economy!

Why not spend time with friends and family savouring local produce in restaurants, hotels and cafes; visit shops that specialise in local foods or make a trip to the regular farmers markets which are held in towns across the Borders.

Fish and Fine Foods, Duns

The Scottish Borders is home to a host of specialist producers creating a wide variety of products and it’s all right here on your doorstep.  There are many local sources of the highest quality food ranging from hand-made confectionery, traditional cheeses and real ale to organic poultry, wild game and the freshest fish.

Many artists, designers and craftspeople live and work in the Borders – what better way to give a unique present to friends and family (or as a treat for yourself!) than one that is made locally and not mass produced.

Check our our local shopping directory for each Border town - support your local community!

Rugby fans are gearing up to watch the Scotland Club International as the best Scottish club players take on France at Netherdale, Galashiels on Friday 5 February (kick-off 7.30pm) for FREE.

For information on planning your trip to the Scottish Borders follow this link, Cliquez ce lien and/or see our suggestions for your itinerary.

The Scotland versus France full international takes place at Murrayfield on Sunday 7 February and visitors from across Scotland and France are being encouraged to spend the weekend between the two matches soaking up the culture of the Scottish Borders.

The amateur Scotland select represents the pinnacle of Scotland’s club game, rewarding the Scottish Hydro League’s top performers with the chance to represent their country while offering the game’s up and coming club coaches the chance to test themselves at a higher level.

Following the success of Scotland A’s 38-7 victory over Tonga at Netherdale in October 2009, Scottish Rugby announced that another three representative matches are heading for the Borders.

Around 4000 fans turned out to cheer on Scotland A’s emphatic win and now the local supporters are to be repaid with another three fixtures: the Scotland Club International match against France at Netherdale on Friday 5 February (kick-off 7.30pm) and two back-to-back under-18 matches against France and Wales at Philiphaugh and the Greenyards on Sunday 14 and 21 March respectively (kick-off 3pm).

In keeping with the initiative launched by Scottish Rugby last season, admission to all representative fixtures will be FREE.
